Position Summary
The Area Director of Sales (ADOS) is responsible for driving revenue performance across an assigned portfolio of hotels through disciplined execution, strategic leadership, and enterprise alignment.
This role ensures each hotel is actively generating demand, executing Tandem Hospitality Group's commercial strategy, and achieving defined revenue goals. The ADOS serves as both a coach and performance leader, elevating the effectiveness of on-property sales teams while holding them accountable to results.
This is not solely a support role. It is a results-driven leadership position focused on ownership, accountability, and measurable performance outcomes across the portfolio.
In addition to portfolio oversight, the ADOS also serves as the Director of Sales for one assigned 'base' or 'home' hotel. This dual-role structure requires the ability to effectively balance property-level execution with above-property leadership without compromising performance in either area.
The ADOS is expected to model the behaviors, discipline, and performance standards expected across the portfolio by leading a high-performing base hotel.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Leadership & Revenue Performance
- Drive revenue accountability and commercial performance across assigned hotels
- Provide strategic direction, coaching, and oversight to Directors of Sales and on-property sales leaders
- Ensure consistent execution of Tandem Hospitality Group commercial strategies and initiatives
- Analyze performance trends, pace, STR data, and market conditions to identify opportunities and risks
- Partner with Revenue Management, Operations, and Marketing to align strategies and maximize results
- Develop corrective action plans for underperforming properties and monitor execution
- Support hotel openings, transitions, repositioning efforts, and commercial ramp-up strategies
- Reinforce accountability around prospecting activity, pipeline management, and sales discipline
- Conduct regular property visits to support leadership visibility and operational alignment
Base Hotel Director of Sales Responsibilities
At the assigned home hotel, the ADOS maintains full responsibility for all Director of Sales functions, including:
- Direct ownership of Rooms, Group, and Catering revenue performance
- Development and execution of hotel-specific sales strategies and business plans
- Management of the sales pipeline and demand generation efforts
- Direct handling of key accounts, negotiations, and major revenue opportunities
- Oversight of local market engagement, networking, and community partnerships
- Leadership of any on-property sales support resources
- Partnership with the General Manager on forecasting, budgeting, and hotel performance
- Monitoring pace, market share, and competitive positioning to drive revenue growth
Leadership & Accountability
- Hold property sales leaders accountable to performance expectations and execution standards
- Lead sales strategy discussions focused on actionable business results
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities to sales team members
- Support recruiting, onboarding, and training efforts for commercial team members
- Escalate performance concerns and partner with leadership on corrective action planning
- Foster collaboration and communication across departments and hotel teams
Process & Standardization
- Support implementation of sales SOPs, reporting standards, and best practices
- Drive consistency in reporting, forecasting, and sales activity tracking across the portfolio
- Ensure CRM, sales systems, and reporting tools are being utilized effectively
- Promote disciplined sales processes and operational consistency across all assigned hotels
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, or related field preferred
- 5-8+ years of hotel sales leadership experience required
- Multi-property or above-property leadership experience preferred
- Proven track record of driving revenue growth and exceeding sales goals
- Strong understanding of:
- STR, Demand360/Agency360, and hotel performance metrics
- Group, transient, and catering sales strategies
- Forecasting, budgeting, and market analysis
- Strong leadership, coaching, and accountability management skills
- Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building abilities
- Ability to travel regularly to assigned hotels
