PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

The Social Catering Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue within The Langham, Boston's wedding and social catering markets while delivering an exceptional luxury client experience from initial inquiry through contracting and event planning.

This position manages a portfolio primarily consisting of weddings and high-value social events, with additional responsibility for select social and SMERF opportunities as assigned.

The ideal candidate is an experienced, highly motivated catering sales professional with a strong understanding of luxury hospitality, relationship selling and revenue management. This individual will proactively develop new business, cultivate planner and industry relationships, convert qualified leads, maximize event revenue and strategically build future-year catering production.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:

  • Achieve established annual catering revenue goals, future-year/crossover production goals and other sales performance objectives.
  • Manage the full sales cycle for assigned wedding and social catering opportunities, including qualification, proposal development, site inspections, negotiation, contracting and event planning.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and polished ambassador for The Langham, Boston's wedding and social event experience, creating a highly personalized and luxury-driven client journey.
  • Proactively solicit new business through targeted prospecting, networking, industry events, planner relationships, client referrals, partnerships and cultivation of past and existing accounts.
  • Maintain an active and strategically managed sales pipeline, ensuring timely follow-up, accurate forecasting and consistent movement of opportunities through the sales funnel.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with wedding planners, event professionals, industry partners and key social catering accounts to increase awareness and generate qualified business opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to maximize total event value through menu enhancements, premium beverage offerings, room rental, ceremony fees, additional event spaces, guest rooms, restaurant outlets, and other hotel services.
  • Conduct compelling site inspections and customized proposals tailored to the client's priorities, vision and event objectives while clearly communicating the value and positioning of The Langham, Boston.
  • Maintain accurate account, activity, pipeline and booking information within the hotel's sales and catering systems.
  • Monitor booking pace, market trends, competitive activity and need periods, partnering with the Director of Catering & Conference Services to develop targeted sales strategies.
  • Participate in catering sales initiatives, client events, industry showcases, networking opportunities and hotel promotional activities.
  • Partner closely with Catering, Conference Services, Banquets, Culinary, Rooms, Revenue, Marketing and other hotel departments to ensure seamless transition from sale through execution.
  • Anticipate client needs, resolve challenges professionally and contribute to a culture of exceptional service and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Support broader Catering & Conference Services initiatives based on business needs.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated success in catering, wedding, event or hospitality sales with a strong record of achieving revenue goals.
  • Sophisticated sales and negotiation skills with the ability to confidently communicate value and close business.
  • Strong understanding of luxury service standards and high-touch client relationship management.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills with a polished and professional communication style.
  • Strong prospecting and relationship-building skills with the ability to develop new accounts and industry partnerships.
  • Commercial mindset with an understanding of pricing, revenue optimization, booking pace and space management.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills with the ability to independently manage multiple complex events and sales opportunities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, solve problems and make decisions in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with senior leadership.
  • Ability to work select evenings, weekends and holidays based on client appointments, industry events and business needs.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE /LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES / REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, business, event management or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive catering, event or hospitality sales experience preferred.
  • Luxury hotel, full-service hotel, wedding or high-end social event sales experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing revenue goals and a sales pipeline.
  • Existing relationships within the Boston wedding, social event or hospitality community are highly desirable.
  • Experience with Delphi or a comparable sales and catering CRM, Cvent, proposal platforms and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, Outlook, Word and presentation tools.

SALARY RANGE:

  • $85,000 - $90,000 annually
