About The Opportunity

Practice Hospitality is seeking an experienced Director of Sales to join the team at Americana Motor Hotel, opening in Flagstaff later this spring.

About The Hotel

Built in 1962 and reopening in late spring, this is yesterday’s hotel of tomorrow, reimagined for today. Parked on historic Route 66 just East of downtown Flagstaff, the Americana Motor Hotel has been fully renovated and in reinventing the roadside retreat as a launchpad for adventure in Northern Arizona. Inspired by the region’s natural wonders and far out history, it will give guests plenty see and do before they head out there. Featuring plush beds, brand-new walk-in showers, retro-futuristic design, 4K television and premium Wi-Fi, the 88 guestrooms rooms are a little slice of heaven here on earth. And, the amenities are out of this world with a year-round heated pool, cozy fire pits, yard games and a tempting menu of tasty treats and cold canned beverages.

Job Role

Represents the hotel in the development of market segment(s) and new customer relationships while maintaining existing relationships with assigned accounts while consistently striving to maximize revenue in rooms, public space, food and beverage and ancillary products and services. 

Responsibilities

  • Participate in ownership meetings/presentations.
  • Represent hotel by soliciting, responding to, and negotiating with persons requiring group accommodations with or without meeting space and/or on-site (hotel) catering.
  • Represent hotel in significant interactions dealing with customers relative to sales and operational questions, concerns, and issues.
  • Negotiate contracts with customers and commission agreements with third party agencies.
  • Initiate the preparation of proposals and/or contracts to advise prospective customers primarily of the hotel guest rooms, but also meeting space and/or banquet date, space, and rate availability. Develop and quote prices for same. 
  • Engage in outside sales activities to discuss business opportunities and entertain customers in local and assigned markets.
  • Direct site visits for respective accounts and participates in tradeshows, industry, and customer events.
  • Attend weekly sales departmental meeting and other scheduled meetings to support business operations, e.g., tentative review, lost business review, group-pick up, etc.
  • Conduct site inspections with potential customers, visiting guest rooms, meeting space and banquet facilities, as well as other hotel facilities. 
  • Oversee the management, training, and career development of sales staff as the team grows.
  • Attend community & industry events in Flagstaff and assist with local partnerships in market to help position the hotel and Americana brand.
  • Active participation in continuing education to ensure further professional development.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree preferred.
  • Additional/advanced degree coursework in business administration, marketing, and communications a plus.
  • Requires substantial operations/sales leadership experience; preferably 10 years or more.
  • Comparable hotel size and scope experience preferred.
  • Proven track record of successes in achieving revenue objectives.
  • Proven ability to recruit, motivate and train sales team.
  • Ability to manage extensive amounts of information and provide constructive feedback/direction.
  • Extensive knowledge of negotiating and sales procedures associated with the hotel industry.
  • Excellent spoken and presentation skills.
  • Considerable ability to listen effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team.
  • Ability to delegate, manage and organize complex projects and establish priorities consistent with department/hotel objectives.
  • Ability to effectively deal with department heads, customers, and team members, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet and work effectively under time and resource constraints.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team of professionals.
