Founded in 1926, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is a private, not-for-profit educational, historic, and cultural institution that owns and operates one of the largest and best-known museum complexes in the world. The Foundation also owns and operates two world-class museums, the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum, and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, and a renowned research library, the John D Rockefeller Jr Library. Additionally, Colonial Williamsburg is home to five world class accommodations at the Williamsburg Inn, Williamsburg Lodge Autograph Collection, the Griffin Hotel, the Williamsburg Woodlands Hotels and Suites and the unique Colonial Houses in the Historical Area. Visitors may also indulge in food and drink at our many on site restaurants and taverns that blend a historically inspired dining experience with today’s evolved tastes. About the Position

Foreman is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and supervising the maintenance, operation and installation of mechanical (HVAC), electrical, electronic, plumbing, building automation, and gas fitting systems in a cost effective, safe, efficient manner, and suitable for the intended use. Trains and mentors other mechanics. Assures compliance with appropriate safety policies and procedures with applicable Federal, State and Local codes, regulations and requirements.

Essential Functions:

  1. Administer a service maintenance program of rapid and immediate response to emergency calls to repair and/or to sustain operations until permanent repairs can be accomplished.
  2. Administer a facility operations program to safely and efficiently operate the mechanical, electrical, electronic, plumbing and gas fitting, and building automation systems as designed for the building use and customer needs.
  3. Supervise the execution of a preventative maintenance program to extend equipment life and prevent premature failure. Program consists of equipment inspection, testing, lubrication, cleaning, adjusting, sensor and control calibration, and minor component replacement. Its major goal is to identify additional work to be planned and scheduled.
  4. Supervise the execution of planned and scheduled corrective and project work to ensure that work is completed in a safe, productive, expeditious and cost-effective manner.
  5. Administer coaching and training for all employees, concentrating on safety, policies and procedures, customer service, local codes, technical and developmental skills.
  6. Ensure that job efficiency, cost, performance, customer satisfaction, employee morale and satisfaction are within acceptable standard benchmarks.
  7. Continually push authority, resources, information, and accountability (ARIA) to the staff.
  8. Oversee and assist all contractor work to ensure all work is performed in a safe and appropriate manner to protect Colonial Williamsburg’s assets and properties.
  9. Conduct routine inspections on work conducted by department personnel and outside contractors to ensure all work is performed to the highest standards and all work and safety procedures are followed.
  10. Work directly with all contractors when necessary to coordinate and complete all required tasks to ensure they are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  11. This position is deemed essential personal and is required to report whether the Foundation is closed or not, regardless of the emergency, weather related, or otherwise.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • This position requires the ability to work nights, weekends, emergency calls, or shift work, and management rotation standby as required by the Department Manager.
  • Master level trade license in Electrical, HVAC, or Plumbing. Sound knowledge of mechanical systems such as refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, plumbing, gas fitting, conveying, and electrical/electronic systems.
  • Working knowledge of building automation systems and related software.
  • Ability to read and understand specifications, drawings, blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record based on The Colonial Williamsburg’s Foundation criteria.
  • Ability to operate computer applications as needed such as CMMS, Trane building automation software, Microsoft Office etc.
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform all duties, to include heavy lifting.
  • All licensed Foreman must maintain current/valid Virginia State Licenses meeting all requirements and periodic renewals. The following licenses are inclusive; Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Gasfitter-Natural/LP and Back Flow Certification.
  • Employee is required to attend additional training sessions as needed meeting all State Regulations for maintaining personal licenses.
  • Employee may be required to participate as needed/requested regarding the monthly in-house Safety Program.
  • All employees may be asked to present approved safety related issues as mentors for training all mechanics during the monthly safety meetings.

Required and Preferred Education & Experience:

Required:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate required.
  • Master level trade license.
  • Minimum of 4 years trade experience at a master level.

Preferred:

  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Technical/vocational school graduation or equivalent.
