The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of his/her property to insure their respective assigned property reaches its full potential in the areas of: revenue generation, cost controls, associate engagement, guest satisfaction, preserving the asset and complete compliance with management and ownership requirements. They will also focus on delivering the Aperture and Sierra Club missions daily while working closely with the volunteers who are a large contributor to the maintenance and integrity of Clair Tappaan.

The General Manager position is responsible for the following:

  • Operations: Coordinate and actively manage housekeeping tasks, maintenance, food and beverage service, and guest reception departments to ensure a consistent, high quality guest experience. Respond to guest complaints and resolve issues and come to satisfactory resolutions.
  • Supervise weekly, monthly, and quarterly deep cleaning and preventative maintenance initiatives. Exceed management and ownership standards of performance and excellence. Ensure that all daily, weekly, and monthly reporting is complete and up to ownership standards. Carefully monitor employee labor hours and ensure they do not exceed the budget. Inspect rooms and huts with housekeepers on a weekly basis.
  • Revenue Maximization: Continually monitor the local market and comp set and strategically calibrate rates to ensure we outperform.  Engage the local community through CVB, Chamber, and others to stay connected to events in the area.
  • Employee Staffing and Development: Hire, train, and develop new employees. Delegate appropriate duties to maximize employee labor hours and minimize employee turnover
  • Budgets and Forecasting: Must be able to maintain all lodge departments and operations within budget and utilize conservative economics in ordering all supplies for lodge operations to ensure best ROI. Actively work with ownership to create budgets and forecasts.
  • Ensures all equipment is correctly maintained and operates at full capacity.
  • Conducts and documents all inspections and drills.
  • Ensures compliance with all codes and regulations.
  • Maintains accurate records to ensure a safe environment which protects the asset, guest, and employees.
  • Develops, implements, and manages energy conservation programs for the property to minimize expenses.
  • Ensures all work orders are accurately and efficiently completed.
  • Defines the cost and scope of projects and oversees all to ensure quality work is performed for minimal costs. (All expenditure must be approved by General Manager).
  • Oversees all facets of the properties Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists staff in solving problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of documented lodge and/or lodge management.
  • Ability to leverage provided technology to effectively manage the property.
  • Must possess an ability to take direction, manage employees, accomplish tasks independently, and pay attention to detail, to ownership's high standards, with little supervision.
  • Ability to supervise, delegate, and manage several tasks at once.
  • Ability to remain calm and in control in emergency or difficult situations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.

Accommodations at Clair Tappaan Lodge are rustic with twin-sized bunk beds and shared bathrooms. Choose from private two person rooms, or larger family rooms to suit your needs. Each bunk comes with a pillow and a fitted sheet. Guests should bring their own sleeping bag or blanket, water bottle, and towel.  If needed, towels and blankets can be rented from the front office.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided to guests and cell phone coverage is good at the Lodge. In an effort to preserve the rustic nature of our Lodge, rooms are not equipped with telephones, televisions, ice machines, or coffee makers. Please plan accordingly. Due to high fire danger, the lodge is a non-smoking facility.
