Position Summary 

The Catering Sales Manager is responsible for proactively selling and servicing corporate catering meetings, weddings and other markets as assigned by Director of Sales and Marketing; responding to leads within agreed time frame, prospecting and soliciting new business, building new client relationships and managing current ones.  Other duties include reviewing contracts, facilitating communication between departments to ensure high level of service.

Essential Duties

  • Meet with clients to capture catering order specifics, such as menu dishes, dates and times, logistical requirements in regard to tables and chairs.
  • Draft and submit the sales contract to client for review, approval and payment.
  • Report progress of catering sales to the Director of Sales as applicable.
  • Ensure operational compliance with health and fire regulations regarding food preparation and serving.
  • Coordinate with banquet and culinary departments with detailed event orders.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints regarding food quality or service.
  • Weekly outside sales calls and site visits.
  • Represent the hotel at expos, conventions, and industry mixers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Prioritizes and plans work effectively and efficiently.
  • Observes and implements all safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with frequent change delays and unexpected events.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills
  • High computer literacy
  • Strong organizational, supervisory and management skills
  • Must possess basic ability to analyze bids and understand budgets.

Education 

  • 2+ years of sales experience, preferably in hotels or related field
  • 4-year degree in hospitality management or sales preferred, or equivalent experience and education

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations 

Iowa Food Handler card preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Develop team goals that are fully aligned with the company goals
  • Lead and coach the team to recruit and retain high caliber staff
  • Provide coaching, guidance and support, set professional development plans to assist employees to reach their full potential through the Performance Management process.
  • Ensure the team delivers the highest standard of departmental, cross departmental and cross foundation teamwork and customer service
  • Ensure optimal deployment of resources to achieve business goals
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  • Works well in group problem solving situations and uses reason when dealing with emotional topics. Develops alternative solutions.
  • Exhibits objectivity and openness to team views. Gives and welcomes feedback. Contributes to building a positive team spirit.

Physical Demands 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, for an extended time period. The employee will need to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance.
