Moxy Hotels | New York City Portfolio

Bring your engineering expertise to one of the most dynamic hotel portfolios in the country. Our Moxy Hotels across New York City are vibrant, design-forward, and high-energy—and we’re looking for a Regional Director of Engineering (RDE) who can keep them running at peak performance.

This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for overseeing engineering and maintenance operations across multiple properties. You’ll balance hands-on problem solving with strategic planning, ensuring our hotels are safe, compliant, efficient, and aligned with both brand standards and ownership goals.

About the Role

As the RDE, you’ll serve as the bridge between property-level engineering teams and ownership, driving consistency, accountability, and performance across the portfolio. You’ll spend time both on-property and working remotely—coaching teams, auditing operations, and leading key initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and support Chief Engineers and property-level engineering teams
  • Partner closely with General Managers to align engineering priorities with overall hotel performance
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training to build strong, capable engineering teams
  • Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and continuous improvement

Engineering Operations

  • Oversee and continuously improve preventative maintenance programs across all hotels
  • Ensure all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety) are operating efficiently and reliably
  • Maintain portfolio-wide consistency in engineering standards, processes, and execution
  • Conduct regular property visits, audits, and performance reviews

Compliance, Safety & NYC Regulations

  • Ensure full compliance with brand standards, local/state regulations, and ownership requirements
  • Lead all Fire Life Safety (FLS) efforts, ensuring inspections, testing, and documentation are current
  • Drive compliance with NYC-specific requirements, including Local Law 97 and energy benchmarking
  • Proactively identify risks and implement corrective action plans

Capital Planning & Asset Management

  • Lead development and execution of annual CapEx plans across the portfolio
  • Evaluate asset condition and provide recommendations on repair vs. replacement strategies
  • Present and justify capital projects to ownership, with a focus on ROI and long-term asset value
  • Oversee execution of major projects, including mechanical upgrades and renovations
  • Coordinate with third-party operators (F&B, nightlife, retail, parking) on shared infrastructure and projects

Financial & Operational Performance

  • Partner with property leadership on budget development and labor planning
  • Monitor engineering expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and improve operational efficiency
  • Lead energy management initiatives to reduce costs and improve sustainability performance

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Lead procurement strategy across the portfolio, including bid processes, contract negotiation, and vendor selection
  • Standardize scopes of work and ensure consistent service delivery
  • Manage vendor performance and hold partners accountable to quality and timeline expectations

Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Implement and maintain digital systems for work orders, compliance tracking, and asset management
  • Standardize SOPs and reporting frameworks across all properties
  • Deliver clear, structured reporting to ownership on performance, CapEx progress, and risk exposure
  • Identify opportunities to modernize operations and improve efficiency through technology

Emergency Response & Support

  • Provide leadership during emergencies, including system failures, weather events, and other critical incidents
  • Ensure teams are trained and prepared with proper emergency protocols and response plans

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in hotel engineering or facilities management (multi-property experience strongly preferred)
  • Prior experience as a Chief Engineer or Regional Engineering leader
  • Strong technical expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems
  • Solid understanding of NYC building codes, compliance requirements, and Local Laws
  • Proven success managing CapEx projects, budgets, and vendor relationships
  • Ability to lead teams across multiple locations and influence without direct daily oversight
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills—comfortable presenting to ownership and senior leadership
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and maintenance management systems

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Lead engineering for a trendy, lifestyle-driven hotel brand in the nation’s most competitive market
  • High visibility with ownership and executive leadership
  • Opportunity to shape processes, standards, and long-term asset strategy
  • Work across a diverse portfolio of properties with unique personalities and challenges
  • Be part of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment that values innovation and accountability
