Chief Engineer

Hotel Longmont Full-Time, Exempt - Onsite Reports To: General Manager Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 annually

Position Summary

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, functionality, and safety of Hotel Longmont, ensuring the property is well-maintained, operationally efficient, and aligned with brand and company standards.

This role oversees all aspects of building systems, preventative maintenance, and repair operations across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces. The Chief Engineer partners closely with property leadership and department teams to support daily operations, enhance the guest experience, and protect the physical asset.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge, the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving maintenance and operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the overall condition and appearance of the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and exterior grounds
  • Perform and oversee repairs and maintenance across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
  • Manage and execute the preventative maintenance program for guest rooms and building systems
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and potential risks
  • Respond to maintenance requests and operational issues in a timely and efficient manner
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that impact guest experience or hotel operations
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and documentation for repairs, inspections, and equipment
  • Track and manage maintenance supplies, tools, and operational inventory
  • Support capital improvement projects, renovations, and facility upgrades
  • Identify opportunities to improve building efficiency, longevity, and overall performance
  • Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for repairs, inspections, and compliance requirements
  • Ensure all work is completed to standard, on time, and within scope
  • Assist in managing vendor relationships and service schedules
  • Partner with Housekeeping and Front Office teams to ensure rooms are guest-ready and operational
  • Support property leadership in maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-functioning work environment
  • Respond to urgent or emergency maintenance issues as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including life-safety systems (fire, sprinkler, alarm)
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure proper handling of tools, equipment, and materials
  • Support inspections and ensure timely resolution of any deficiencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business needs

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of building maintenance, facilities, or engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and general building systems
  • Ability to perform general repairs, including carpentry, drywall, painting, and basic mechanical work
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Preferred:
  • Hospitality or hotel engineering experience
  • HVAC and/or EPA certification
  • Experience managing preventative maintenance programs
  • Experience working with vendors and contractors
  • Experience in a lifestyle, boutique, or high-occupancy hotel environment

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • This role requires the ability to perform physical maintenance tasks and safely operate tools and equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The position may involve:

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier items with assistance
  • Climbing ladders, stairs, rooftops, and accessing mechanical areas
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching, and working in confined spaces
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and outdoor conditions
  • Operating hand and power tools safely

Schedule Requirements

  • Flexible schedule required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Availability for on-call or emergency response as needed

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 annually
