Job Overview:

The Housekeeping Supervisor at DoubleTree by Hilton Harrisonburg is responsible for overseeing the housekeeping department to ensure that the hotel meets high standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction. This role involves managing a team of housekeepers, coordinating cleaning schedules, and implementing procedures to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of guest rooms and public areas. The Housekeeping Manager is a key player in creating a welcoming environment for guests and ensuring that all housekeeping operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Department Management:
    • Supervise and lead the housekeeping team, including housekeepers, supervisors, and room attendants, ensuring that they adhere to company standards and procedures.
    • Schedule and assign daily tasks, ensuring proper coverage for all shifts and efficient use of resources.
    • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces to ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and adherence to hotel standards.
    • Provide training, coaching, and performance evaluations to housekeeping staff, promoting a high standard of service and professionalism.
  2. Guest Satisfaction:
    • Ensure that all guest rooms and public areas are cleaned and maintained to exceed guest expectations.
    • Address and resolve guest complaints and requests related to housekeeping promptly and professionally.
    • Monitor guest feedback, reviews, and satisfaction scores to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  3. Operational Efficiency:
    • Develop and implement housekeeping procedures and standards to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Coordinate with the maintenance department to address any repairs or maintenance issues identified during housekeeping activities.
    • Manage inventory levels of cleaning supplies, linens, and equipment, ensuring that resources are available and used efficiently.
    • Oversee the proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  4. Quality Control & Compliance:
    • Ensure that all housekeeping operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Conduct regular audits of cleaning practices and procedures to ensure compliance with hotel policies and industry standards.
    • Implement and enforce protocols for infection control, including proper cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  5. Team Development & Leadership:
    • Foster a positive and productive work environment, encouraging teamwork, open communication, and employee engagement.
    • Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for housekeeping staff to enhance their skills and performance.
    • Address and resolve any staff conflicts or issues in a fair and timely manner.
  6. Administrative Tasks:
    • Maintain accurate records of housekeeping activities, including room status, cleaning schedules, and inventory levels.
    • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, tracking expenses and implementing cost-saving measures where possible.
    • Generate reports on housekeeping performance, guest satisfaction, and operational efficiency for review by the General Manager.
  7. Coordination & Communication:
    • Collaborate with other hotel departments, including front desk, maintenance, and management, to ensure seamless operations and guest satisfaction.
    • Communicate effectively with guests, staff, and management, providing updates on housekeeping activities and addressing any concerns.
    • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of hotel policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  2. Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in housekeeping, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
    • Proven track record of managing a housekeeping team and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.
  3. Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
    • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on guest satisfaction.
    • Knowledge of cleaning procedures, safety regulations, and inventory management.
    • Proficiency in using housekeeping management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the property for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and climbing stairs.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced hotel environment requiring effective time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Indoor work primarily, with occasional outdoor tasks or inspections.
  • Collaborative environment involving frequent interactions with staff, guests, and other departments.
