Job Title: Painter - Part time Temporary

Department: Property Operations/Engineering

Location: The Standard, High Line

Reporting to: Director of Engineering/MOD

Responsible for: N/A  

Job Purpose: The Painter is responsible for mixing, matching, and applying paint to various surfaces. This position maintain the appearance of the hotel and its facilities by completing touch-ups and assisting in renovation projects.

Main Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Maintain appearance of hotel facility surfaces through paint jobs and touchups
  • Apply paint to surfaces, including canvas, walls, floor, doors, cabinets, etc.
  • Mix, match and apply paint, shellac, enamel, and other finishes
  • Scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting
  • Calculate amounts of required materials and costs
  • Stock and organize storage and inventory of materials
  • Select and buy paint from preferred vendors
  • Assist in renovation projects

Specific Requirements:

  • Understanding: Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions according to established procedures
  • Comprehension: Fluent in the English language
  • Organizational Skills: Work efficiently, utilize multi-tasking, prioritize tasks
  • Hygiene and Sanitation: Adherence to uniform, grooming and personal hygiene standards and expectations per SOP’s
  • Punctuality: Adherence to posted schedule and arrival time and attendance at mandatory meetings when scheduled
  • Responsibility: Personal comportment in line with Standard, New York policies, standards, and expectations

Desirable:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a related field
  • Experience working with equipment required for this job, including spray guns, various brushes, etc.
  • Knowledgeable on painting materials and finishes and different styling techniques
  • Ability to perform tasks with attention to details

PhysicalRequirements

  • Able to work standing for a minimum period of 8 hours a day
  • Periodical bending, kneeling, and stretching
  • Able to pull, push, carry and lift at least 50 pounds of force
  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands
  • Requires manual ability to use, carry, and operate all necessary equipment
  • Ability to endure under variable temperature conditions, noise levels, outdoor weather, and atmospheric conditions (being around fumes, odor hazards, dust, mite hazards, chemicals, etc)
  • Ability to work in cramped or tight spaces
