Job Summary

The Painter & Finisher is a skilled Engineering specialist responsible for maintaining and enhancing the aesthetic appearance of the resort through high-quality painting, finishing, restoration, and cosmetic repair work. The role maintains architectural finishes, wall coverings, millwork, decorative surfaces, and furniture throughout guest rooms, public areas, exterior areas, and back-of-house spaces.

Job Duties & Functions

  • Perform touch-up painting, refinishing, and cosmetic repairs throughout guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, exterior areas, furniture, millwork, wall coverings, and other architectural finishes.
  • Apply paint, stain, varnish, sealers, and other finishes using appropriate brushes, rollers, spray equipment, and finishing techniques.
  • Prepare and restore surfaces through cleaning, patching, sanding, scraping, stripping, priming, sealing, masking, and other appropriate preparation methods.
  • Repair and restore damaged drywall, sheetrock, plaster, wood, millwork, furniture, wall coverings, veneers, laminates, and decorative surfaces.
  • Perform skilled repairs to wood paneling, trim, cabinetry, doors, furniture, furnishings, and architectural millwork.
  • Match colors and existing finishes and select compatible materials and application methods to achieve a consistent, high-quality result.
  • Apply caulking, grouting, sealants, and other cosmetic repairs to maintain a clean and well-maintained resort appearance.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify finish defects, wear, damage, and restoration requirements.
  • Protect adjacent finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment during work and leave work areas clean, organized, and guest-ready.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, paints, finishes, wall coverings, chemicals, and related supplies safely and in an organized manner.
  • Support Engineering colleagues with guest room calls, preventive maintenance, special projects, and general building upkeep as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety by following all company safety policies and applicable OSHA standards, using required PPE, reporting hazards, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the team.

Education & Experience

Candidates Must Meet At Least One Of The Following Qualification Pathways

Pathway 1: High school diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years of relevant experience in painting, finishing, restoration, drywall repair, wall coverings, furniture refinishing, or architectural finishes.

Pathway 2: Recognized vocational or trade qualification in painting, decorating, carpentry, finishing, or a related discipline and 2-3 years of relevant practical experience.

Pathway 3: At least 5 years of demonstrated skilled trade experience in painting, finishing, restoration, or architectural finishes may be considered in lieu of the formal education requirement.

Regardless of qualification pathway, candidates must demonstrate high-quality craftsmanship, surface preparation and finishing capability, color matching, finish replication, and appropriate material selection.

Luxury hotel or resort experience is preferred.

Relevant painting, finishing, decorating, or trade certification is advantageous. Appropriate safety training for chemical handling, work at height, and use of applicable tools and equipment is required or must be completed as assigned.

Working Conditions & Environment

Work is performed throughout guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and exterior areas. The role may involve exposure to Cayman heat and weather, paints, solvents, adhesives, sealers, dust, fumes, odors, noise, ladders, and elevated work areas. Appropriate ventilation, PPE, and established safety procedures must be used.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; climb and work from ladders; balance; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach; push and pull; use painting and finishing tools with appropriate manual dexterity; and lift and move objects weighing 50 lbs. or more, with or without reasonable accommodation.
