Houseperson Attendant

Job Summary

The Houseperson supports daily housekeeping operations by assisting Room Attendants with preparing guest rooms, stripping beds, removing soiled linens and trash, distributing clean linens and supplies, and maintaining the cleanliness of guest corridors, public areas, and housekeeping service areas. This position plays an essential role in ensuring efficient housekeeping operations, maintaining hotel cleanliness standards, and providing exceptional guest service in accordance with Marriott and company standards.

Activities & Responsibilities

• Respond promptly and professionally to requests from guests and other departments.

• Assist Room Attendants with daily housekeeping operations to ensure guest rooms are cleaned and prepared efficiently.

• Strip beds in checkout rooms, removing used sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, and other soiled linens.

• Remove trash, recycling, and used guest amenities from checkout rooms to prepare them for cleaning.

• Collect and transport soiled linens and towels from guest rooms, housekeeping carts, and linen closets to designated laundry areas.

• Distribute clean linens, towels, and housekeeping supplies to designated floors, linen closets, and Room Attendant carts.

• Maintain adequate inventory of linens, towels, guest amenities, and cleaning supplies in housekeeping storage areas.

• Assist Room Attendants with moving furniture, mattresses, rollaway beds, and other heavy items as needed, following proper safety procedures.

• Deliver guest-requested items, including extra towels, pillows, blankets, cribs, and rollaway beds, and assist with furniture setup in guest rooms.

• Remove items from hallways and transport them to designated service areas, including debris, room service trays, newspapers, soiled linens, and trash.

• Maintain cleanliness of guest corridors, stairwells, elevators, service areas, housekeeping closets, and other assigned public spaces.

• Vacuum carpets, sweep and mop floors, dust surfaces, and clean designated public areas as assigned.

• Assist with deep-cleaning projects, periodic cleaning, and other housekeeping assignments as directed by management.

• Identify and report maintenance issues, damaged furniture, safety hazards, and other concerns observed in guest rooms or public areas.

• Place caution signs and follow established safety procedures when cleaning floors or addressing potential hazards.

• Contact the appropriate department directly when urgent repairs or safety concerns require immediate attention.

• Clean, maintain, and properly store housekeeping tools, carts, and cleaning equipment.

• Follow hotel procedures for handling lost and found items, hazardous materials, and guest property.

• Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to Marriott and company service standards.

• Perform other duties as requested or assigned by management.

Equipment & Technology

• Housekeeping carts, linen carts, and laundry collection bins.

• Vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaning equipment, mops, and other cleaning tools.

• Cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Hotel communication devices and housekeeping task management systems, as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Previous housekeeping, hotel operations, or related experience preferred.

• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.

• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the assigned shift.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed primarily indoors in guest rooms, corridors, public areas, laundry areas, and housekeeping storage spaces.

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting throughout the shift.

• Repetitive physical movements associated with stripping beds, handling linens, removing trash, and transporting housekeeping supplies.

• Ability to push and maneuver housekeeping and linen carts.

• Ability to lift and carry housekeeping supplies, linens, and equipment, with assistance or appropriate equipment when necessary.

• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and varying temperatures.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings based on operational needs.

• Compliance with all hotel safety procedures, sanitation standards, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
