Job Summary

The Engineer II is an experienced, multi-skilled Engineering technician responsible for independently resolving guest room maintenance issues, performing planned preventive maintenance, troubleshooting building systems, and supporting safe and reliable resort operations. The role works with a high degree of independence, provides hands-on technical guidance to developing Engineering colleagues, and may serve as Engineer on Duty when assigned.

Job Duties & Functions

  • Respond promptly and independently to guest room maintenance requests and resolve routine-to-complex issues while minimizing guest disruption.
  • Perform scheduled Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) on guest rooms, plant rooms, mechanical equipment, electrical systems, HVAC units, and public areas.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and other resort building systems within demonstrated competence.
  • Provide technical support for HVAC, refrigeration, commercial kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, and pool/spa systems.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance, coaching, and daily support to Engineer I colleagues and other developing technicians.
  • Serve as Engineer on Duty when assigned, taking ownership of shift maintenance operations, emergency response, operational continuity, and cross-departmental communication.
  • Respond to equipment failures and maintenance emergencies and take appropriate action to protect guest and colleague safety and resort operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed PPM, repairs, inspections, maintenance activities, and parts used.
  • Support resort events and banquets with appropriate electrical, AV, and technical assistance.
  • Assist with inventory control and the safe organization and storage of tools, parts, materials, chemicals, and maintenance supplies.
  • Support senior Engineering colleagues and Engineering leadership with projects, major repairs, contractor activities, and general building upkeep.
  • Interact professionally with guests, colleagues, suppliers, and contractors as required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety by following all company safety policies and applicable OSHA standards, using required PPE, reporting hazards, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the team.

Education & Experience

Candidates Must Meet At Least One Of The Following Qualification Pathways

Pathway 1: High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of progressively responsible facilities, Engineering, or relevant skilled-trade experience, including demonstrated independent technical capability.

Pathway 2: Recognized technical or trade qualification in Engineering, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, or a related discipline and 3-4 years of relevant practical experience.

Pathway 3: Associate or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline and 2-3 years of relevant practical facilities or Engineering experience.

Regardless of qualification pathway, candidates must demonstrate strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building systems; independent troubleshooting capability; and competency in at least one relevant technical specialty.

Luxury hotel or resort experience is preferred.

Relevant trade or technical certifications are advantageous and may be required for regulated work. OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training is required or must be completed as assigned. A valid driver’s license is required where driving is an essential function of the position.

Working Conditions & Environment

Work is performed throughout the resort, including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, plant and mechanical rooms, and exterior areas. The role may involve exposure to Cayman heat and weather, noise, vibration, dust, fumes, chemicals, oils, HVAC and refrigeration equipment, moving mechanical equipment, electrical systems, emergency maintenance situations, ladders, and work at height. Appropriate PPE and established safety procedures must be followed at all times.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform the full range of physical maintenance activities, including prolonged standing and walking; climbing; balancing; bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching; pushing and pulling; accessing plant and equipment areas; safely using tools and equipment; and lifting and moving objects weighing 50 lbs. or more, with or without reasonable accommodation.
