Job Overview

As a mixologist, you will use your talent to prepare and serve great alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for each guest, every time, all while enjoying the fun that each guest brings. While mixing and creating, the bartender is responsible for ensuring that all state, federal and property specific policies and procedures are upheld. Clean and set tables in the outlet and perform other food service-related duties, including set up and general cleaning.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for guests and servers for table delivery.
  • Take beverage and food orders at the bar. Describe menu items and suggests products to customers.
  • Restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies.
  • Provide opening and closing inventory of spirits.
  • Ensure all liquor, beer and wine product is put away safely and always secured.
  • Assist with recipe batching, ice molding, liquor infusions, washing and preparing garnishes, etc.
  • Ensure that taps, coolers, and other appliances like blenders or coffee makers are clean and in working order.
  • Verify customers identification and confirm it meets legal drinking age.
  • Ensure that minors and intoxicated persons are not served alcoholic beverages.
  • Act as a cashier for the servers when necessary.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the bar area through disposing of all waste, clearing and cleaning all glassware, and wiping down bar and preparation areas.
  • Assist servers, other bartenders, and barbacks when necessary.
  • Participate in the deep cleaning of the outlet.
  • Operate a cash register and receives payment from customers in cash or credit card, accurately counts and provides change to customers as required, and follows all company’s customer service and cash handling policies and procedures.
  • Assist all guests professionally and courteously, with the highest quality of standards for customer service.
  • All other duties assigned by manager or supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Experience. Two years’ previous experience providing customer service preferably in a similar setting with a working knowledge of Spirits, Wine, Beer and Food service
  • Flexible. Must be able to work varied shifts, including Weekday Evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Friendly. Must be able to deliver a fun and friendly environment during each guest exchange
  • Energetic. Must be able to work within an empowered and fast paced environment that services the bar and servers within the restaurant
  • Knowledge. County Specific Food Handlers Certification, State specific alcohol certification and/or TIPs certification required
  • A qualified applicant is a “people person” who is flexible with their schedule, loves to serve others, and knows how to multi-task while ensuring accuracy.

This boutique hotel features 80 upscale rooms, an art gallery, signature food and beverage outlets including indoor and outdoor patio dining, as well as an expansive rooftop bar, banquet and meeting space. Retro Hospitality provided pre-development and pre-opening consulting services, as well as served in an asset management capacity for owners and investors. In 2022 Retro assumed full management of Quirk Charlottesville, bringing an art-forward and localized approach to the property.
