Director of Engineering

The successful applicant will be responsible for the oversight of the property’s maintenance function and its operation, capital improvements, and service and repair of equipment on site. Directs and supervises the Maintenance and Grounds staff. Ensures optimal financial performance of the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Direct and supervise all Maintenance and Grounds staff including hiring, training, performance and termination.
2. Prepare and maintain Engineering budget and monitor monthly. Complete P&L responsibility for the department, manage forecasts and assist with the capital plan.
3. Develop and implement effective policies and procedures for department in collaboration with senior management.
4. Balance operational, administrative and Guest needs.
5. Develop schedules for preventive maintenance and ensures facilities are inspected regularly to identify current and potential maintenance needs. Implement and use multiple systems to track progress.
6. Responsible for receiving and prioritizing requests for maintenance.
7. Ensures repairs comply with internal policies and external regulations. Maintain records and documentation related to repairs made. Is responsible for Life/Fire safety systems, and energy/green initiative systems.
8. Identify building challenges and resolve accordingly.
9. Maintain inventory supplies.
10. Schedule needed inspections for the property and work with vendors accordingly.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. At least 5+ years of progressive experience in upscale or luxury hotel engineering, and 4+ years as a Director of Engineering experience in an upscale or luxury hotel.
2. Qualifications are required as either a Professional degree in an Engineering discipline, a trade degree in a specific technical field relating to Engineering discipline, or relevant experience.
3. Licensed in a trade a plus (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, Carpentry, etc.)
4. Attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
5. Effective in handling problems in workplace, including anticipating, identifying, preventing and solving problems as necessary.
6. Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and Outlook a must.
7. Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data.
8. Multi task and meet deadlines.
9. Flexibility to work and able to lift up to 50lbs.
10. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
11. Must be able to live and work in Cayman Islands.

SALARY:
Salary will be commensurate with experience. This role is part of the executive committee for the property, and benefits may include a housing allowance and performance bonus. Other benefits, such as health insurance, pension, and paid vacation, are also provided in accordance with Cayman Islands Labour Law.
