The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining clean, attractive, sanitary, and guest-ready hotel rooms and public areas in accordance with hotel standards. The Housekeeper ensures guest rooms are properly cleaned, inspected, and prepared for arriving guests while providing courteous and professional service.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESGuest Room Cleaning

  • Clean and service assigned guest rooms according to hotel standards and established procedures.
  • Make beds and change bed linens, towels, and other guestroom supplies as required.
  • Dust, vacuum, sweep, mop, and clean all assigned areas of guest rooms and bathrooms.
  • Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, showers, tubs, floors, mirrors, and other bathroom surfaces.
  • Replenish guest amenities, toiletries, towels, linens, and other supplies.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces as assigned.
  • Inspect rooms for cleanliness, damage, maintenance concerns, and missing items.
  • Report maintenance issues, damaged property, safety concerns, and rooms requiring additional attention to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
  • Follow established procedures for cleaning rooms that are occupied, vacant, check-out, stay-over, or out of order.
  • Ensure guest rooms are properly secured when entering, working in, and leaving each room.
  • Close and secure the guest room door whenever leaving a room, in accordance with hotel security procedures.
  • Do not allow unauthorized individuals to enter guest rooms or restricted areas.

Guest Service

  • Respond courteously and professionally to guest requests within the scope of the position.
  • Direct guest questions or concerns to the appropriate manager when necessary.
  • Protect guest privacy and maintain confidentiality regarding guest information.
  • Report lost and found items immediately and follow hotel procedures for handling them.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and courteous demeanor while on property.

Safety & Security

  • Follow all hotel safety, security, OSHA, and housekeeping procedures.
  • Properly use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
  • Follow chemical labeling and storage requirements.
  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, unsafe conditions, suspicious activity, or security concerns to management.
  • Never prop open or leave guest room doors unsecured.
  • Follow procedures for entering occupied guest rooms and responding to "Do Not Disturb" rooms.
  • Follow all procedures regarding master keys, room keys, and access to guest rooms.
  • Maintain awareness of potential hazards, including wet floors, broken fixtures, damaged equipment, and other unsafe conditions.

Attendance & Teamwork

  • Report to work on time and ready to begin work at the scheduled start time.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and comply with the hotel's call-off and attendance procedures.
  • Complete assigned rooms and tasks within established timeframes while maintaining quality standards.
  • Work cooperatively with other housekeeping staff, Front Desk, Maintenance, and hotel management.
  • Accept and complete reasonable additional assignments as directed by management.
  • Attend required meetings, training sessions, and safety programs.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding room status, supplies, maintenance issues, and other operational concerns.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The Housekeeper is expected to:

  • Maintain consistent standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Complete assigned rooms and duties accurately and efficiently.
  • Follow all established hotel policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Protect guest privacy, property, and security.
  • Maintain guest rooms in a condition that meets or exceeds hotel and brand standards.
  • Properly handle hotel equipment, supplies, keys, and guest property.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and teamwork.
  • Accept coaching and direction from supervisors and management.
  • Immediately report problems or conditions that may affect guest safety, satisfaction, or hotel operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous housekeeping or hotel experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Professional and courteous attitude.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect guest privacy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The Housekeeper must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and lift as required.
  • Make beds and clean bathrooms and other guestroom areas.
  • Push housekeeping carts and cleaning equipment.
  • Lift and carry cleaning supplies, linens, towels, and other items.
  • Repeatedly perform physical cleaning activities throughout the workday.
  • Safely operate standard housekeeping equipment and tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is primarily performed in hotel guest rooms and housekeeping/storage areas.
  • Position may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, bodily fluids, laundry, and other materials commonly encountered in hotel housekeeping.
  • May work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on hotel operational needs.
