We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the opening and long-term success of the first and flagship Canopy hotel in New York City. This role is ideal for a leader who believes that great guest experiences start with a strong, empowered team culture.
Located in the heart of the Penn District, at the corner of 34th Street and 8th Avenue, this 365-room, design-forward lifestyle hotel will feature extensive food & beverage offerings and serve as a brand showcase for Canopy in NYC, steps from Madison Square Garden and Hudson Yards.
What you will be doing
The General Manager will lead all aspects of the hotel’s pre-opening, launch, and continued operations, with a strong emphasis on building a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team. This leader will set the tone for a workplace where team members feel supported, developed, and proud of what they are building together.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all pre-opening activities, including recruiting, onboarding, training, and team engagement initiatives
- Build and sustain a people-centered culture grounded in teamwork, accountability, trust, and respect
- Establish service standards and operational practices that reflect both brand excellence and team well-being
- Develop, coach, and inspire a diverse leadership team with a focus on growth, succession planning, and retention
- Oversee day-to-day hotel operations across rooms, extensive food & beverage outlets, sales & marketing, finance, and facilities
- Drive financial performance while maintaining a balanced focus on results, culture, and sustainability
- Partner closely with ownership, brand representatives, designers, and construction teams throughout the opening phase
- Serve as a visible, approachable leader who fosters open communication and collaboration at all levels
The ideal candidate for this position
- Proven General Manager experience in full service, lifestyle, or luxury hotels, ideally in major urban markets
- Strong pre-opening experience with new construction hotels preferred
- Recognized as a people-first leader who builds trust, engagement, and strong teams
- Experience leading design-forward hotels with significant food & beverage operations
- Financially astute with the ability to lead complex operations without losing sight of team culture
- Hands-on leadership style with a passion for mentoring, developing talent, and creating belonging

Salary: $180k-$200k, plus bonus potential
