Manager in Training – Rooms / Front Office

The Manager in Training – Rooms / Front Office is a developmental leadership position designed to provide hands-on experience in hotel operations while preparing the colleague for future leadership opportunities within Hyatt. Working closely with Front Office and Rooms leadership, this position will gain practical experience in guest service, daily operations, colleague development, problem resolution, and interdepartmental coordination.

The Manager in Training will actively participate in Front Office operations, including assisting guests, supporting colleagues, resolving service concerns, and helping ensure smooth and efficient daily operations. This role requires a strong commitment to hospitality, a willingness to learn, and the ability to lead by example while developing the skills necessary for a successful career in hotel management.

ResponsibilitiesGuest Service & Front Office Operations
  • Provide exceptional, welcoming, and professional service to guests throughout their stay.
  • Support Front Office operations during high-volume periods, including guest check-in and check-out, room assignments, guest requests, and general assistance.
  • Respond to guest questions, concerns, and service issues promptly and professionally.
  • Assist with service recovery while learning appropriate decision-making and escalation procedures.
  • Monitor the lobby and Front Office areas to ensure a welcoming, organized, and guest-ready environment.
  • Assist with the coordination of VIP arrivals, group arrivals, special requests, and other high-impact guest experiences.
Leadership Development
  • Learn Front Office leadership responsibilities through hands-on experience, coaching, observation, and assigned developmental opportunities.
  • Lead by example by consistently demonstrating Hyatt service standards, professionalism, accountability, and care.
  • Assist Front Office leadership with daily colleague communication, coaching, training, and recognition.
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings and assist in communicating hotel information, priorities, and guest needs to colleagues.
  • Develop skills in conflict resolution, service recovery, colleague engagement, and operational decision-making.
  • Learn scheduling, staffing, labor management, performance management, and other leadership responsibilities under the direction of Front Office leadership.
  • Seek and respond positively to coaching and feedback as part of the management development process.
Operational Accuracy
  • Support accurate guest billing, payment processing, room assignments, reservation information, and guest preferences.
  • Learn and utilize hotel property management, guest service, communication, and reporting systems.
  • Assist in reviewing operational reports and identifying items requiring follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate documentation regarding guest concerns, service recovery, incidents, and other operational matters.
  • Follow established cash handling, credit card, key control, privacy, and security procedures.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Serve as a communication link between the Front Office and other hotel departments to support a seamless guest experience.
  • Partner with Housekeeping, Engineering, Security, Bell/Door, Valet, Reservations, Sales, Events, and other departments as needed.
  • Communicate guest needs, room status concerns, maintenance issues, and operational priorities promptly and accurately.
  • Build positive and professional working relationships with colleagues throughout the hotel.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow Hyatt and hotel policies, procedures, safety requirements, and standards of conduct.
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest, colleague, financial, and hotel information.
  • Recognize and appropriately escalate safety, security, and emergency situations.
  • Complete all required Hyatt, hotel, and departmental training programs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in Hospitality, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • One to two years of hotel Front Office, guest services, or related hospitality experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or training experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong commitment to hospitality and providing exceptional guest service.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solutions-focused when handling guest concerns or challenging situations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to receive feedback, learn new responsibilities, and develop leadership skills.
  • Comfortable learning and utilizing hotel property management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Additional language skills, including Spanish, are helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to move throughout guest rooms, public areas, and operational areas of the hotel as needed.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform other physical movements associated with Front Office and Rooms operations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that may require frequent movement between operational areas.
Additional Information
  • Flexible schedule required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
  • This position is designed as a developmental role and may include exposure to multiple areas within the Rooms division based on training needs and business operations.
  • Must maintain professional appearance and grooming standards in accordance with Hyatt policies.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of guest, colleague, and hotel information.
  • Must complete all required Hyatt and hotel training programs.
