Position: Lifeguard

Report To: Pool Managers

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Pool Manager(s), the lifeguard is directly responsible for the health, safety and welfare of those using the Club’s Swimming Pool Facility. A Lifeguard’s major responsibility is to observe swimmers and enforce regulations in the guarding of life and the prevention of accidents at the pool. A Lifeguard must have knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and first aid, recognize hazardous situations, and adopt effective courses of action.

Responsibilities:

• Greet and acknowledge Members and Guests in a timely manner and report complaints to management as they occur.
• Provide Members and Guests with an enjoyable and safe aquatic environment by maintaining constant visual surveillance of your zone.
• Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the pool area.
• Identify and respond to emergency situations calmly and administer the correct care.
• Demonstrate high skill level in swimming, approaches, carries, resuscitation, assists and victim removal.
• Supervise the activities of swimmers by enforcing specific pool and safety rules and regulations and manage unsafe conditions or activities inside and the areas surrounding the aquatic facilities.
• Rescue a person in distress or in danger of drowning when indicated or provide rescue breathing, CPR and First Aid until emergency personnel take over.
• Notify the Manager on Duty of any accidents, rescues or problems that have arisen or any equipment that needs repair or is unsafe to use.
• Perform Deck Attendant duties, including but not limited to general cleaning of the pool deck areas, pool seating areas and restroom areas, sanitation of the pool furniture, railings and other special assignments as assigned by the Pool Manager(s).
• Perform opening and closing duties.
• Attend regularly scheduled in-service training (four hours per month).
• Ensure that American Red Cross Certifications remain current.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid Certifications. (Must be completed at Lakewood Country Club)
• Position requires lifting of up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to stoop and bend on a regular basis.
• Duties require attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in the process of unsafe behaviors. The position requires proficient swimming ability and the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques. This position requires the ability to properly extract victims from the pool(s) to the deck.

Scheduling Requirements:

Mornings, Evenings, Weekends and Holidays – based on the level of Club Activities.
