PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

The goal of the Housekeeping team is to impress the guests of The Langham, Boston with exceptional cleanliness, thoughtful service and extraordinary attention to details. The Houseperson is an essential part of this team and is tasked with setting the Housekeeping team up for success. The Houseperson ensures that Housekeeping team have linen, supplies and equipment, along with anything else necessary to ensure cleanliness and comfort of hotel guests. This job is not just about lifting and moving: the Houseperson has frequent interactions with guests as he/she delivers items to guest rooms. Every such interaction is an opportunity to create memorable experiences for guests by following Langham service standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:

  • Move clean linen to guest room floors. Stock linen storage closets daily with clean linen and terry, bathrobes, supplies and amenities. Deliver linen and terry to Room Attendants, as needed;
  • Remove items from hallways and transport to service areas, including debris, room service food and beverage trays, soiled linens, and waste;
  • Ensure guest hallway floors, mirrors, furniture, elevators and doors are clean and mark-free. Keep all service elevator landings, stairwells and linen storage rooms clean, organized and tidy by sweeping, mopping and dusting these areas;
  • Pick up, wash/sanitize and deliver guest room glassware;
  • Strip rooms (remove soiled linen, terry, waste and in-room dining items from guest rooms in preparation for cleaning) when required;
  • Assist Room Attendants as directed by Supervisor/manager (e.g., help move beds, furniture, turn mattresses, remove or hang sheers and drapes, etc.);
  • Complete daily deep cleaning projects as assigned by Supervisor/manager;
  • Expediently deliver and/or pick up items requested by guests. Set up items in guest room (e.g., rollaway beds, cribs, fridges, etc.);
  • Fully and correctly utilize task assignment device (HotSOS) to accept requests, update progress and prioritize completion of tasks;
  • Provide service with poise. Greet all guests on guest room floors with a smile and according to Langham and LHG service standards;
  • Maintain proper and safe usage of cleaning chemicals and solutions. Follow departmental procedures for reporting hazardous materials or conditions;
  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies and Connect sustainability procedures.
  • Report any suspicious persons, activities or items to Housekeeping Supervisors/Managers or Security team;
  • Report any maintenance/upkeep deficiencies;
  • Report all lost and found items to the appropriate department;
  • Properly and safely utilize the assigned master keys;
  • Properly and safely use all assigned tools, equipment and uniforms;
  • Follow departmental security and safety protocols while on guest floors (e.g., keeping guest rooms secure during servicing, guest locked out of the room, etc.);
  • Carry out other duties and tasks as assigned by Supervisor/manager.

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must be able to speak/read/write English to interact with guests and co-workers as to understand, communicate and accommodate needs and requests;
  • A great attitude is required, with ability to work weekends/holidays.
  • Prior experience with floor care process, including shampooing carpets, is a plus;
  • Must be able to learn new processes and techniques.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE /LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES / REQUIRED:

  • Previous housekeeping/janitorial experience helpful
  • Previous experience at a 4-5-star hotel/resort preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physical activities include kneeling, bending, lifting, stretching, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning;
  • Must be able to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance;
  • Must be able to move objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance;
  • Must be able to push/pull a loaded laundry cart or a piece of machinery.

PAY RANGE:

  • $33.99 - $34.29 per hour
