As Assistant General Manager, you'll be the operational backbone behind the guest experience, working side by side with the General Manager to bring the property's standards to life every single day.

Your mission

  • Lead daily operations. Oversee the hotel's core operational teams bringing structure, accountability, and heart to the daily rhythm of the property.
  • Deliver financial performance. Support the General Manager in maximizing revenue, optimizing expenses, and positioning the hotel for long-term success.
  • Mentor and lead. Develop and empower department heads, fostering a results-driven, guest-focused culture.
  • Create an unparalleled luxury guest experience. Implement systems and service standards that make the hotel a standout in the market, and step in personally when it counts.
  • Bring calm, capable leadership. Handle the planned and the unexpected with equal composure, ensuring the hotel runs smoothly whether the General Manager is in the building or not.

Job role

As Assistant General Manager, you will support the General Manager in the day-to-day operations of the hotel in keeping with all corporate and brand standards, maximizing profitability as well as guest and team member satisfaction. You will act as the General Manager in their absence and serve as a key operational leader.

Your specific duties in this role will include:

  • Oversee daily operations across departments, ensuring alignment with The Compton's standards of service, cleanliness, safety, and sustainability.
  • Support the preparation and management of hotel budgets and forecasts, and help direct actions required to maximize profitability and luxury service levels.
  • Ensure hotel implementation and compliance with policies, procedures, and brand standards.
  • Lead and/or participate in department head meetings, staff meetings, and all-team member meetings.
  • Hire, supervise, coach, counsel, and conduct performance evaluations for department heads and key personnel.
  • Develop the skills and abilities of direct reports, and monitor high-potential team members for growth within the company.
  • Speak with and respond to guests regarding service challenges, stepping in as needed to resolve issues in real time.
  • Establish and maintain systems, processes, and reporting tools that support smooth, consistent operations.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with guests, vendors, and the local community.
  • Act on behalf of the General Manager as required, including communication with hotel owners and corporate offices.

  • Attend industry meetings and participate in industry organizations.
  • Participate in and maintain active community relations.
  • Participate in corporate activities and meetings, as requested.
  • Monitor guest feedback and implement improvements to enhance the guest experience.
  • Input and retrieve information from computer systems for file maintenance, correspondence, and preparation of forecasts.

Education and/or experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in hotel operations, with demonstrated success in multi-department management.
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and controlling costs in a hospitality environment.
  • Experience with luxury or boutique properties preferred.

Specific job knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Expert knowledge of hotel property management systems, revenue management, and reservation platforms.
  • Advanced understanding of hospitality financial controls, budgeting, and P&L management.
  • Exceptional leadership and team development skills with the ability to motivate diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in forecasting, reporting, and data-driven decision making.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with guests and team members.
  • Deep knowledge of housekeeping standards, and luxury hospitality service excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve conflict.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively under time and resource constraints.

Physical demands

  • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays as business demands require.
  • Capability to remain on feet for extended periods while conducting property inspections and guest interactions.
  • Comfort moving throughout all areas of the property including guest rooms, restaurants, and back-of-house areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with operational tasks as needed.
  • Availability for emergency response and problem resolution outside of regular business hours.
