Job Description: Bartender

Position Summary

The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests at the bar and for service staff in a fine dining environment. This role delivers exceptional guest service, maintains product knowledge of craft cocktails and Italian wines, and ensures compliance with all food safety, alcohol service, and workplace regulations.

Angelina’s Restaurant also features a Mercato, a high-end Italian retail experience offering wines, champagne, cheeses, deli meats, coffee beverages, pastries, and specialty items. Bartenders may support guest engagement and product knowledge across both concepts as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve craft cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages according to company standards.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Italian wines, spirits, and cocktail preparation.
  • Take and process guest food and beverage orders using the POS system.
  • Provide full-service support to bar guests and assist servers with beverage preparation.
  • Open and serve wine and champagne following proper service standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the bar and service areas in compliance with health regulations.
  • Monitor guest consumption and comply with all responsible alcohol service laws.
  • Anticipate guest needs and provide prompt, professional, and courteous service.
  • Handle guest concerns or complaints and escalate when appropriate.
  • Accurately process payments and follow all cash handling and credit card procedures.
  • Complete opening and closing duties, including inventory checks and reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and sanitation standards.
  • Support Mercato operations when needed (product knowledge, guest assistance).

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Minimum 2 years of bartending experience in a fine dining or upscale environment required.
  • Strong knowledge of craft cocktails and mixology techniques.
  • Knowledge of Italian wines and beverage pairing preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide valid documentation in compliance with I-9 requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Must be able to pass any legally compliant pre-employment screenings (if applicable).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (entire shift).

  • Frequent reaching, bending, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to safely handle glassware, tools, and bar equipment.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced fine dining restaurant and bar setting.
  • Exposure to alcohol, cleaning chemicals, glassware, and wet floors.
  • Requires adherence to all workplace safety and sanitation standards.

Schedule Expectations

  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hours per week (subject to business needs).

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
